Skincare Essentials

It’s official. I’m obsessed with healthy glowing skin. But really, who isn’t? I guess I just take it a step further than most people because I spend quite a bit of time researching the newest/latest/greatest products out there. My focus is always on quality and keeping things as natural as possible because – REMINDER! – your skin absorbs everything you apply so it better be good. The result is a routine I’m quite pleased with as my skin really does seem to be the happiest and healthiest its ever been. Below are three of my favorite discoveries I can’t stop talking about, sharing is caring so enjoy!

Retinol Reform by Shani Darden
Go ahead and file this one under certifiable STALKER moves. A year or so ago I met Jessica Alba in person and was blown away by her radiant skin. I immediately got online and started hunting for any and every bit of beauty advice she has ever given out and one name kept coming up again and again, Shani Darden. Shani is a facialist based in LA and if you can think of a celebrity with glowing skin it’s probably because they go to Shani. Like any skincare obsessed person would do I started following her on Instagram and was thrilled to see her Retinol Reform as a mild yet effective option for many skin issues. This magic bottle helps ‘reduce wrinkles, pore size, photodamage (dark spots), improves skin texture for acne scarred skin, softens + smoothes rough aging skin, lightens pigmentation associated with photodamage and over time will aid in toning and firming the skin.’ I use it 3 or so times a week followed by a moisturizer before bed and always wake up with the softest skin. I have also noticed the large dark sunspot on my cheek start to fade. Definitely a new staple in my arsenal of goodies. Heads up to any expecting or breastfeeding mamas to steer clear of retinol for the time being.

Naturopathica Vitamin K Brightening Eye Serum
Apparently I have incredibly sensitive skin around my eyes because it has taken me 10 years (seriously) to find an eye cream that doesn’t cause irritation, redness and swelling. I know eye creams can often be a more expensive version of any other moisturizer you buy but I really like the idea of putting something extra hydrating around my eyes since the skin is so thin and can use all the extra plumping it can get. Enter Naturopathica’s Vitamin K Brightening Eye Serum. It is gentle and so hydrating I can feel and see a difference the moment I put it on, like my skin just drank a big glass of water and is feeling refreshed. I also love buying from Naturopathica as they are one of those hero companies operating with 100% transparency with what they put in their products. As you might have guessed from the name, ‘all ingredients are derived from renewable resources and manufactured with environmentally friendly processes.’ Love that!

Biologique Recherche, Lotion P50
This is a total game changer. I’m talking my skin is literally different than it was before I used this product. I first read about it in a Refinery29 interview and the more I read the more it seemed impossible to not give it a try. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who uses it is obsessed with it and they all say the same thing…it stinks, it’s not really a lotion but a toner, it balances the ph of your skin, it’s hard to find and it has completely changed their skin for the better. The hardest part of pulling the trigger on this product was figuring out which version to buy but now that I have it I can’t see a day where it won’t be one of my staples because my skin is brighter and more refreshed. I use it a few times a week (warning: my face gets red for about 10 minutes or so, don’t get scared) after washing my face and let it do it’s thing for a few minutes before the rest of my routine. If you are going to splurge on one beauty product this should be it. The more you read about it the more you will learn how much of a secret cult following it has. I can’t sing it’s praises enough.

  1. Always great tips, thanks Kelsey! I know in the past you have been a huge proponent of Arcona products – are you still using any of these? If so, which ones are still part of your routine and which ones have you found to not be as successful as the products you mentioned above?

    • Still a HUGE fan of Arcona. I use the toner tea bar, magic white ice, peptide firming serum, night worker and night breeze (use these last two layered together). I own the gentle solution and dessert mist but am preferring other products instead now. If you ever question what products to use based on what your skin is doing I suggest calling their spa in Manhattan Beach, they are super helpful and will talk you through what your skin is doing and what they recommend. I still think they are some of the best products on the market and all natural which you can’t beat.
