Confession: when it comes to food I am a total pain in the ass. I want it as fresh as it gets, organic, preferably local, sustainable and if I can see it being prepared or happen to catch a farmer dropping off some of the latest goods (this has happened!) the restaurant gets extra bonus points. What can I say…I have high standards! But because of this I happily take responsibility for finding options to dine whenever we are eating out. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that within 15 minutes of landing in San Diego I had a handful of local spots to discuss with the concierge of our hotel. I admitted my “pain in the ass” status, what I was looking for and some of the options I wanted an opinion on. Lucky for me the concierge responded without hesitation that Cafe 21 was the place to be. The food was all fresh and the menu had lots of healthy options for weekend brunch. The Bloody Marys were INSANE, topped off with crispy thick cut prosciutto pieces and grilled cheese sandwiches, and the unique take on eggs benedict with varying flavor profiles atop potato or corn cakes was a refreshing spin on an old classic. If you find yourself in my shoes when it comes to food, and in San Diego looking for food, take it from me that Cafe 21 is a great bet.
