Looking for an easy DIY homemade gift to give out for the holidays? This is it, homemade Kahlua. Well, as long as it’s going to people 21 and over of course. My mom made this same coffee liqueur a few years back after saving a bunch of old bottles and it was such a hit. I couldn’t help but make it again this year to have on hand for yummy holiday cocktails, easy grab and go hostess gifts or for that ‘oh s*#t, I forgot to buy so-and-so a present!’ moment we have all had before. Since we are already in December and I’m assuming you don’t have a bunch of empty liquor or wine bottles on hand I will tell you Cost Plus has some great bottle options in all shapes and sizes. You can also buy a bulk supply of smaller bottles on Amazon like THESE, and seriously stretch your dollar. Besides the bottle you will need a ribbon, the ingredients, a label and you are set! Seriously, this is the easiest…it took me less than 10 minutes to make!
Homemade Kahlua
4 cups water
6 cups sugar (I used brown, but white is fine too)
1⅓ C instant coffee granules
1.75 Liters of vodka
¼ C pure vanilla extract
Bring water to a boil and remove from burner. Add sugar and coffee and stir until dissolved. Once cooled incorporate vodka and vanilla and pour into whatever bottle you want to store it in. You’re done! Crazy right?!
Oh, I almost forgot!…it is always cute to add a tag with the recipe if giving as a gift. Cheers!
