In the two short years I’ve lived in my neighborhood it has gone from a small sometimes seedy but quaint part of the city to the place most of the new residential buildings are being built. Most of the change has been wonderful like new restaurants, shopping and other amenities. But a few, like more competitive parking and some local favorite spots closing up shop, have been a bit of a bummer. Bar Jules (which I reviewed here) was a Hayes Valley staple and I was sad to see it close it’s doors but my sadness was short lived when I caught wind of what would be taking it’s place, the newest venture by Dominique Crenn called Petit Crenn. Crenn is the only female chef in the United States to be awarded two Michelin Stars for her “poetry on a plate” at her first experience, Atelier Crenn, a fine dining journey in every sense (and the place the hubs and I ate after secretly getting hitched at the courthouse, yep!). To have such talent making her way into my part of town was enough to have me lined up opening week. The best part about Petit Crenn is it fits the vibe of Hayes Valley. Not too fancy, walk-ins welcome at the bar and a killer wine list. Done. Sold. Also, major shout out to Dominique for being such a force of nature in an otherwise male dominated field, cheers!
